Armed Forces and Security Programme Assistant


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The ICRC Delegation in Armenia is announcing a vacant full-time position of “Armed Forces and Security Programme Assistant” based in Yerevan.
Main responsibilities:
Armed Forces and Security Programme Assistant under the direct supervision of the Delegate for Armed Forces supports the implementation of the respective Armed Forces program objectives and activities of the ICRC Delegation in Armenia.


Job Responsibilities
-Assists the Delegate for Armed Forces in the implementation of the program objectives and activities of the ICRC Delegation in Armenia
-Supports in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with military interlocutors at various levels
-Organizes Armed Forces-related meetings, gatherings or conferences applying relevant administrative and logistics procedures
-Communicates well and makes presentations to target audiences at own level of expertise (dissemination, training of arms carriers)
-Contributes to defining relevant strategies, objectives, plans of action for ICRC interaction with arms carriers and in operational reporting
-Provides interpretation or translation during Armed Forces-related events and meetings as necessary
-Provides support to other ICRC departments when requested in the area of coverage


Required Qualifications
-Higher education or professional diploma, legal and security studies is an asset
-Military work experience, including in operational and commander positions
-Is a former member of the Armenian Armed Forces, preferably with honorable discharge in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or above
-Proven knowledge of international humanitarian law and human rights law
-Good knowledge of spoken & written English and fluency in spoken & written Armenian and Russian
-Computer proficiency
-Very good analytical and communication skills
-Sound understanding of political, social and cultural assigned environment
