Environment Specialist


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The ICRC Delegation in Armenia is announcing a vacant full-time position of “Environment Specialist” based in Yerevan.

The Environment Specialist will contribute to the implementation of the advocacy strategy of the delegation aimed at ensuring access to water and land in the affected areas along the international borders, develop a better understanding of the related trends.


Job Responsibilities
-Develops and maintains regular contacts with organizations working on Environmental Issues, Water, Irrigation and Climate Change, as well as the Water committee and Ministries of Natural Resources and Territorial Administration of Armenia
-Analyses information relevant to issues of climate change, water reservoirs, access to agricultural lands and irrigation issues along affected areas
-Assesses, collects and compiles technical information related to Water, Irrigation and Environment along communities, liaises with the involved stakeholders regarding technical aspects of the issues affecting access to water and access to land in the affected areas
-Contributes to the design of department’s long-term strategy and feeds the ICRC protection dialogue on these topics
-Executes administrative and office work related to the projects, prepares and participates to technical assessments and data analysis
-Organizes activities, which will help to raise awareness of the water problems in the affected communities


Required Qualifications
-Higher Education (University or Institute) in Water Engineering, Environment Issues, Agronomy or Melioration
-4 to 5 years of relevant work experience or research
-Very good knowledge of spoken and written English, Russian and Armenian
-Very good computer literacy (knowledge of drawing and mapping GIS and CAD software is an asset)
-Good knowledge of Tavush marz is an asset
-Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills
