Job Description
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with the
exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide
them with assistance. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian
Law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the International Red Cross
and Red Crescent Movement.

The ICRC Delegation in Armenia is announcing a vacant full-time position of “Forensic Specialist” based in Yerevan.


Job Responsibilities
-Forensic Specialist under the direct supervision of the Forensic Coordinator supports the implementation of the Forensic programmes, strategy and activties related to forensic science for the ICRC Delegation in Armenia.
-Specifically, he/she will:
-Support in conducting forensic analysis of the context, promote the implementation of relevant up to date forensic standards, including those applicable to missing persons and the management and identification of human remains.
-Assist in administrative and logistic aspects in relation to assistance/donations aimed at improving working conditions and procedures of the agencies responsible for the search for missing persons, management of the dead and identification of human remains.
-Provide guidance and orientation of the background/preliminary research/activities related to clarification of the fate of missing persons from the past conflict to ensure appropriate collection, interpretation, and maintenance of information.
-Develop and maintain contact with relevant local authorities (i.e. forensic practitioners, law enforcement authorities, judicial operators, non-state organizations, etc.) involved in forensic / missing persons activities.
-Provide briefings to ICRC staff in humanitarian forensic action and missing activities, conduct/participate in forensic / missing persons meetings, briefings, training sessions and workshops internally and externally.
-Implement the Humanitarian Forensic Program/projects/activities particularly in relation to the strengthening of the capacity of the investigative and medico-legal system with a view to reaching the objectives set within the Delegation’s Forensic Strategy and Operational reference framework.


Required Qualifications
-University degree in medical, biological or forensic sciences.
-At least 6 years of experience in forensic practice applied to humanitarian or human rights investigations.
-Contribution to scientific publications on forensic practice, especially in the field of humanitarian and human rights investigations, will be viewed as a strong asset.
-Ability to undertake responsibilities under supervision but with considerable degree of autonomy.
-Experience and practice in negotiations and public relations, particularly applied to the promotion and implementation of professional and ethical standards related to the field of expertise.
-Experience in forensic training will be viewed as an asset.
-Excellent knowledge of spoken, written English, Armenian and Russian.
-Computer Proficiency (Office package: Excel, Word, Power point etc.)
-Excellent data management skills
